HardWhich Hollywood Action Hero Is A Lifelong Dungeons & Dragons Geek?
Answer: Vin Diesel
While Dungeons & Dragons has plenty of high profile fans within the geek community–like Wil Wheaton–love for the table top role-playing game is kept rather hushed outside of geekier circles. Unless, of course, you’re talking to Hollywood action hero and director Vin Diesel.
Diesel is lifelong Dungeons & Dragons fan who began playing in his early teens and continues to this day. He’s talked about the hobby on The Conan O’Brien Show, the Jimmy Kimmel Show, and in interviews with Dragon Magazine. In 2004, he even penned the introduction to a Dungeons & Dragons retrospective book appropriately titled Thirty Years of Adventure: A Celebration of Dungeons & Dragons.
In the 2002 action-movie xXx, Diesel had the makeup crew give a nod to his favorite character, Melcor, by putting a fake tatoo with the half-orc’s name on his stomach for the film. In various interviews, Diesel has suggested he’s been informally shopping around looking to start a video game franchise based on the character.
Other notable Dungeons & Dragons fans include comedians Robin Williams and Stephen Colbert, musician Moby, actor Mike Myers, and cartoonist Matt Groening.
