Answer: The Chromecast

Tech companies love Easter eggs, and Google is no exception. If you flip over a first-generation Google Chromecast, their original wireless HDMI video dongle, and scrutinize the model number, you’ll find an Easter egg hidden right there in plain sight.

The official model number of the first-generation Chromecast is H2G2-42. The first half of the model number is fan shorthand for the title of Douglas Adams’ iconic sci-fi novel “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. The 42 is a nod to one of the bigger jokes in the novel: an alien race builds a massive supercomputer, greater than all the supercomputers that preceded it, to find the answer to the ultimate question of life and the universe. After eons of calculations, the computer responded: “The answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything is 42.”
