HardWhich Company Did Steve Jobs Ask To Build OSX-based Laptops?

Answer: Sony
Although Steve Jobs believed strongly in a closed eco-system for Apple wherein they would maintain complete control over their hardware development and deployment, he had a soft spot in his heart for one particular hardware line: Sony’s VAIO laptops.
In 2001, Jobs approached Sony executive Kunitake Ando with one of Sony’s VAIO notebooks with an as-of-then unreleased version of OS X running on an Intel platform to demonstrate how well it ran.
If not for constraints within the VAIO department, the project would have progressed, and when Intel-compatible versions of OS X rolled out years later, they would have been on VAIO laptops.
