Which Action Movie Boasts The Most Expensive Fight Scene Of All Time?

Pirates of the Caribbean
The Matrix Reloaded
Spider Man
The Avengers

Answer: The Matrix Reloaded

2003’s follow-up to the smash-hit movie The Matrix, The Matrix: Reloaded, featured all the action and CGI-fueled goodness audiences expected. Riding on the success of The Matrix, Warner Bros. was more than willing to shell out nearly 150 million dollars to produce the film.

Of that roughly 150 million dollars the total bill for the movie’s CGI work alone was 100 million dollars. Out of that massive expenditure on CGI, a whopping 40 million dollars was spent on a single fight scene. In an action-packed fight scene between Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), CGI was used to create the more extreme moves they pulled off, to create a sense of slowed time, and to demonstrate Agent Smith’s power as a rogue program in The Matrix–it took serious rendering time to generate hundreds of Hugo Weaving clones to populate the fight scene.

At 17 minutes long, the scene cost 2.35 million dollars a minute in CGI expenses alone to film.
