Video Game Company Activision Was Sued By Which Of These Dictators?

Kim Jong-Il
Fidel Castro
Saddam Hussein
Manuel Noriega

Answer: Manuel Noriega

Best known as the deposed dictator of Panama, Manuel Noriega also makes an unauthorized appearance in the 2012 Activision game Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

In 2014, Noriega sued Activision for their unauthorized inclusion of his likeness in the game and for the objectionable depiction of him as a “kidnapper, murderer, and enemy of the state” as well as one of the characters (Frank Woods) referring to him as “Old Pineapple Face”.

The case was dismissed by U.S. courts, officially, on ‘freedom of speech’ grounds and unofficially (we’d like to imagine) due to the irony of Noriega filing the lawsuit from a Panamanian prison in which he was serving time for murder and human rights violations (and that “Old Pineapple Face” was, in fact, a less-than-endearing term Panamanians actually used to refer to him).
