Answer: Women’s Razor Handle

If you’re a Star Wars fan with an exceptionally sharp eye for detail, then you might have noticed an unintentionally humorous prop in the Star Wars universe. The Hush-98 comlink communicator used by Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace was modeled after a bit of real-world 20th century technology—but not particularly advanced technology, mind you.

The prop masters made the comlink by casting a mold of a Gillette Ladies Sensor Excel razor handle. In fairness to the prop masters, the body of the Excel has a nice ergonomic look and certainly doesn’t stand out at all. Once it was painted silver and had a few bits and pieces glued on, it was ready for its new role as a communicator in a galaxy far, far away.
