The Aliens On The Simpsons Were Named After?
Answer: Star Trek Characters
Appearing in the first edition of The Simpsons’ annual Halloween “Treehouse of Horror” episode aired during season two (and in every Halloween episode thereafter), Kang and Kodos are a pair of aliens from the fictional planet Rigel VII, most notable for their constant drooling and their stereotypical B-movie’esque plots to take over Earth and subjugate humanity.
Their names and their fictional planet are both a direct nod to the Star Trek universe. Kang was the name of a Klingon captain in the Star Trek episode “Day of the Dove” and Kodos the Executioner was the name of a human villain from the episode “The Conscience of the King”. Even the planet they hail from, Rigel VII, is from Star Trek, appearing in the episodes “The Cage” and “The Menagerie”.
