HardIconic Comedy Film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” Was Financed By What Unlikely Source?

Answer: Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon album is one of the best selling albums of all time and brought enormous wealth to all four members of the band. Among the things one would assume a bunch of rock stars would do with the surge of wealth that comes with a multi-platinum best selling album are buying country homes and fancy cars, but they also pooled some of the money and funded a comedy movie.
Not just any comedy movie, mind you, but one of the most iconic comedy films of all time: Monty Python and the Holy Grail. So how did such an arrangement come to pass? Tony Stratton-Smith, an English rock music manager was both highly influential in the British music industry and responsible for managing and releasing several Monty Python comedy albums. He essentially brokered the deal between Pink Floyd’s management and the producers of Holy Grail to combine Pink Floyd’s affection for the comedy group and their funding to bring the brilliant comedy film to life.
