HardBart Simpon’s Hit 90s Song “Do The Bartman” Was Ghost Written By None Other Than?
Answer: Micheal Jackson
In early 1990, a huge fan of the Simpsons called up the show’s producers and offered to write a hit pop song for the show’s spunky star, Bart Simpson. That huge fan, Michael Jackson, had more than a few huge fans of his own and knew a thing or two about making music.
The Simpsons producers took him up on it and Jackson (along with Bryan Loren) wrote and produced the song “Do the Bartman”, a pop-rap song that was released both as a single and on The Simpson album The Simpsons Sing the Blues. Although never officially released as a single in the U.S., it was released in many other countries as such and temporarily topped the singles charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, and the United Kingdom. It was particularly popular in the United Kingdom and ended up becoming the 7th best selling single of 1991.
Although Michael Jackson didn’t originally receive writing/production credit for the song (contractual obligations with another record label prevented him from doing so), he did leave a self-referential shout out in the song, found in the line “If you can do the Bart, you’re bad like Michael Jackson”.
